The suit has changed · Lawyers and advocates

Will AI replace lawyers? No. It drafts; you argue.

A lawyer's day is reading and writing: notices, pleadings, contracts, judgments, client emails and WhatsApp. Much of it is done by hand, late at night.

The short answer

No, not the profession. Advocacy, legal judgement, ethics and a client's trust stay with people. AI is taking over much of the routine reading and writing, so junior work will change. Lawyers who explore it carefully, and check every line, get more time for strategy.

Seedhi baat: court mein bahas, legal judgement aur client ka bharosa vakeel ka hi rahega. AI drafting aur padhai ka bojh halka karta hai. Lekin AI ke diye case reference bina check kiye kabhi use mat kijiye.

Questions people ask

Straight answers.

Will AI replace lawyers?

No. Courts, clients and the profession rely on human judgement, advocacy, ethics and accountability. AI is useful for first drafts, summaries, checklists and explanations, which lawyers must check.

Is law still a good career with AI?

Yes. People and businesses will keep needing trusted advisers and advocates. Law graduates who can use AI carefully will be more productive, not less needed.

Can AI give legal advice?

General AI tools should not be relied on for legal advice on a real case. They can be wrong and can invent references. Use them for drafts and organisation, and have a qualified lawyer decide.

Why must lawyers check AI citations?

AI tools sometimes produce case names and references that look real but don't exist. Every citation must be checked in an authentic source before use.

Can I put client documents into ChatGPT?

Not confidential client material in a public tool. Use anonymised or made-up facts, follow your firm's policy and your Bar Council's rules, and prefer tools approved for confidential work.
